Margaret Street Primary School
Masters Studio Graduate Project, 2016
With a focus on evolving pedagogies and high density living, the Urban Primary School is a new typology proposed as a test case for future schools to integrate public use in an urban setting, as well as provide adaptive learning spaces.
With growing socio-economic disparities between Australian schools, capacities being reached, and funding inequities between public and private schools, there's an emerging opportunity for the standard model of schooling to evolve.
While many of the barriers surrounding traditional pedagogies are systemic or legislative in nature, it's important to recognise the facilitative use that our environments have in dealing with non-environmental issues. It is therefore the intention of this project to generate a speculative architectural typology which allows schools to flourish in high density urban environments and create positive outcomes for schools and the surrounding community.
